The Foreigner

Max, "a German terrorist" (AP), ends up in New York in search of a hiding place. He takes a taxi to the Chelsea Hotel and goes to CBGB, unaware that his steps are being monitored. Working with a small team and 16mm grainy black and white film, the underground filmmaker Amos Poe shot three New York films, in which the city's music scene had a special presence, in the 1970s. In THE FOREIGNER, a no-budget production shot in 10 days, Debbie Harry, who plays a mysterious woman who sings a song in German and French, is joined by The Cramps and Anya Phillips, who died young. Like for UNMADE BEDS, the soundtrack was composed and recorded by the Patti Smith Group's Ivan Král. (hjf)
